GAY GAMES 2010
SPORTS MIXER

Fellow NYC Athletes:

This Monday (Nov 16th, from 8-11pm) join Cheer New York (NYC’s LGBT cheer squad) for a fun and sexy Sports Team Mixer! This will be a kick-off celebration for New York City athletes' journey to Cologne, Germany in July 2010 for the international Gay Games competition. To celebrate, Cheer New York has booked DJ Raymond Di Giacomo and our special guest Hostess, Chaka Khanvict for an evening of great music, prizes and entertainment.

The event will be held at Elmo Restaurant's downstairs bar and will provide Gay Games drink specials (Cheer-tinis and Cologne Cocktails!), Cheer New York performances, fabulous raffle prizes, and sexy go-go performances by the hot and flexible men of Cheer NY.

Part of Cheer NY's mission in Cologne will be to cheer on all New York athletes when they compete, as we have in the past at local competitions for the Ramblers Soccer Club, Front Runners NY, Big Apple Softball, Gotham Knights Rugby Football Club, New York Gay Football League, NYC Gay Basketball League, Gotham Volleyball League, and Team New York Aquatics.

So stop by and bring a teammate, partner, date or a friend! The party is open to ALL.
Come hang with fellow teammates or meet members of other LGBT sports leagues.

Don't forget to ask us while there about having CNY cheer on your Gay Games athletes on to victory!

All the best,
Cheer New York

SURVEY: Homophobia and Transphobia in Sports

Dear Athletes,

GLAD, the New England-wide legal organization that won marriage cases in Mass. and Connecticut and is now suing to overturn DOMA, is setting its sights on challenging homophobia and transphobia in sports. To determine how it can best do that, GLAD is researching the ways in which anti-gay and anti-transgender attitudes affect LGBT athletes and coaches. Its first step is collecting the stories of LGBT athletes, coaches and allies who can shed light on the challenges and barriers homophobia and transphobia present.

Here is the link to the survey: www.glad.org/sports

We are aiming to reach as many LGBT athletes and coaches as possible to provide the necessary support and legal remedies.

Very best,
Jamal Brown

Travel & Lodging Information for Cologne
· Air Travel: Fly into Cologne/Bonn, Dusseldorf (40 minutes by train) or Frankfurt (1 hour by train). Continental, Delta, United, and Air Canada all have direct flights to Dusseldorf (1 or 2 stops on the way). Flights to Cologne/Bonn are sometimes a bit less expensive as that airport is served mostly by discount carriers and usually involve another stop or a 2nd airline but are also available. Frankfurt is a major hub and many airlines fly direct, sometimes nonstop from the USA or Canada.
· Airport Transfer: All three airports have train stations with trains going to central Cologne. Visit
http://www.bahn.de for details and pricing for trains from Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. Cologne’s Stadtbahn light rail system connects the airport to the rest of the light rail system.
· Airline Discount: Cologne does not yet have an airline partner but expects to have one sometime this fall.
· Hotel Accommodations: Cologne’s official housing partner is HRS – Hotel Reservation Service. The system is already online and is very easy to use.
http://www.games-cologne.de/en/cologne/accommodations
· Group Accommodations: Using the system, select 10 or more rooms for 10 or more adults and you’ll get a page with instructions on how to request group booking information. There is a form to complete, or you can email them at groups@hrs.de, or call them at +49 (0)18055 2077 300  or at +49 (0)221 2077-300.
· Hosted Housing: Cologne will have a hosted housing program. To be notified about the program, sign up for their e-newsletters.
http://www.games-cologne.de/en/take-part/offer-accommodations
· Ground Transportation: Cologne has an excellent bus and rail system. Mass transit is available for access to all sports venues except for sailing, where Cologne is providing a shuttle. You should not rent a car to get around in Cologne but car rentals are available for day trips if you prefer.

Encourage your Members to Keep Informed
If they have not already done so, your members should sign up for the Games Cologne e-newsletter at

Show Your Gay Games Pride on your Cologne Uniforms!
Repeating a successful program from the Chicago Gay Games, teams preparing to participate in the 2010 Gay Games can again request permission to place the official Gay Games logo on the uniforms, shirts, hats, and other wearable items that are being designed. It is simple to apply for and receive approval in just a few days. Before your team completes the design for its uniforms, please consider showing your true pride by including the Gay Games logo in your plans. For more information about this program, contact FGG Officer of Marketing Doug Litwin at
dlitwin@gaygames.org
