VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR TEAM NEW YORK!

The Team New York Committee (TNYC) is looking for a few self-starters to volunteer help with our fundraising events!

We have a $5,000 committment from a wonderful sponsor to help pay for your players Team New York uniforms in the 2010 Gay Games.  We REALLY need your help -- please volunteer with us.  You can contact us for more information at contact@oobnyc.org.

The mission of the TNYC is to raise money to provide FREE uniforms for all local athletes participating in International sporting events. In 2009, we provided uniforms for the Outgames in Copenhagen. Now, we are focusing on the 2010 Gay Games in Cologne, Germany. To reach this goal, we will be setting up various social events at local bars and restaurants.

Come join our team to help put together these fundraising events and promote them among the LGBT community.  We would love some assistance with marketing, event planning, organizing and running events, communicating with teams and build awareness about Team New York and Out of Bounds NYC!

If you are interested, please contact us at

A note from Ski Bums president Chris French:

Hello fellow LGBT athletes! On Thursday night, SKI BUMS is kicking off our new season, and we want you and your friends to come join us at Therapy from 7 PM to 10 PM. We're giving away a free Burton Snowboard and free lift tickets to local ski resorts!

If you're looking for a fun new way to stay active in the off-season -- and an adrenaline rush when the temperatures drop -- Ski Bums is it. We welcome skiers and boarders of ALL skill levels, from complete newbies to major powder-hounds. We've even got a daytrip devoted to beginners where you can learn how to ski or ride for free. :) And, with over 500 members, you're guaranteed to meet other skiers and boarders at your level, whether you sign up for one of our cool, inexpensive daytrips from NYC or head to the big mountains of Wyoming, California, Vermont, New Mexico, Utah, Italy, Norway and Chile, all of which are on our 2010 calendar.

Membership dues are just $45 per year. Become a member, sign up for trips and view our photo galleries on our informative website at www.ski-bums.org. Everyone is welcome at our parties, which happen one a month, so please stop by anytime to meet the awesome spectrum of members -- male and female, younger and older, gay, straight, bi and trans -- in  SKI BUMS! We're a laid-back, extroverted, low-drama, outdoorsy bunch, and we love making new friends.

SURVEY: Homophobia and Transphobia in Sports

Dear Athletes,

GLAD, the New England-wide legal organization that won marriage cases in Mass. and Connecticut and is now suing to overturn DOMA, is setting its sights on challenging homophobia and transphobia in sports. To determine how it can best do that, GLAD is researching the ways in which anti-gay and anti-transgender attitudes affect LGBT athletes and coaches. Its first step is collecting the stories of LGBT athletes, coaches and allies who can shed light on the challenges and barriers homophobia and transphobia present.

Here is the link to the survey: www.glad.org/sports

We are aiming to reach as many LGBT athletes and coaches as possible to provide the necessary support and legal remedies.

Very best,
Jamal Brown
GLAD
