NYC GAY BASKETBALL REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!
http://nycgaybasketball.org/files/fall09_reg_open.html

Dear Players,

Welcome to the Fall 2009 Registration Page. We are happy to be starting our 3rd year!

This season we anticipate 6 Men's A teams, 6 Men's B teams and 6 Women's Teams. Registration is now OPEN!   Please register soon to ensure you get a roster spot this season!
The Fall 2009 season will begin in mid-September. Game schedule coming soon.

Men's Division
Men's Division games will be played at the The Field House Chelsea Piers. The season consists of 9 games plus playoffs. The fee for Men's Division players is $175 per person. This covers player insurance and a team shirt. Games will be on Sundays afternoons/evenings. The game schedule will be available soon.

Chelsea Piers is very easy to get to. The last stop on the M23 Bus is 100 feet from the Field House. The M23 Bus runs frequently and it stops along 23rd Street and can be easily accessed from the following subway lines: C, E, F, R, V, 1, 6 (23rd St. Station)

Women's Division
Women's Division games will be played at LREI, 145 Thompson Street in NYC. The season consists of 8 games plus playoffs. The fee for Women's Division players is $130 per person. This covers player insurance and a team shirt.

We're going to continue our "paper-less" registration by having players complete
ONLINE REGISTRATION forms. Click the link and register now.

Captains
If you are interested in being considered for a Captain position this season, you have the opportunity to indicate this when you register. Let us know.

New Player Evaluations
All NEW players will need to attend one Evaluation Session. We will reach out to you directly to let you know where and when these sessions are scheduled. All Captains MUST attend the New Player Evaluations.

Player Assistance Program
The Board recognizes that there are circumstances in which individuals do not have the financial means to play in the league. To help with this, a Player Assitance Program has been implemented to give everyone an opportunity to participate in the league by reducing the cost to play by $100 for some players. Click here to apply. Deadline: September 4, 2009

Recommend-a-Friend Program
Unfortunately, we will not be able to implement this program for the Fall 2009 Season, but if you do have friends interested in playing, please let them know about the organization!

GOTHAM VOLLEYBALL REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION -- REGISTER NOW FOR THE FALL SEASON AT www.gothamvolleyball.org/register

Registration for the Fall 2009 Season and Power Classes is now OPEN!  This e-mail contains all the information you need to help you register -- please read to the end.  Please register in advance of your tryouts.  Here's some simple instructions on how to register and some frequently asked questions:

(1)  If you are returning to Gotham, or have registered before, go to www.gothamvolleyball.org/register and sign in using your e-mail address and password you created.  If you are totally new to Gotham, go to that page and start by creating an account.  Don't forget the e-mail address and password you used!

(2) Once you are signed into the system, look for the "REGISTER NOW" button.  This will take you to an information page.  At the bottom of the screen is a button that will let you go to the registration process.  Fill out the forms, confirm your choices, and you're done.  Be sure to put down all divisions and all power classes you'd be willing to participate in.  You will get a confirmation e-mail listing your tryout number(s) and tryout times and other information.

(3) You must register in advance of tryouts.  We do have some computers we can use to help you register at check in, but there are only one or two of them and the wait can be long.  Registering before you show up goes a long way to getting you on the court much quicker!  Also, registering in advance helps us plan by knowing what kind of turnout we are getting, etc. Remember, captains for a division will not be able to pick you unless you register for that division!

(4) For league play, if you are a new member of Gotham, or a returning member who wants to move to a higher division, you must attend tryouts.  REMEMBER -- DIVISION 1-5 TRYOUTS ARE EARLY THIS SEASON!  For Power classes, everyone must attend tryouts.  Because of the odd schedule, Power tryouts are on a weekday night, even though classes are held on the weekend.  If you have a conflict with Power tryouts, please e-mail power@gothamvolleyball.org.  (Full tryout schedule is below!)

(5)  That's it!  If you are new to our league or a beginner, don't stress.  Just register and show up and we'll make the whole thing fun for you, and you'll meet a ton of new people.  Also, don't hesitate to ask for help at info@gothamvolleyball.org.  If you are new to the sport of volleyball, don't worry about "tryouts," we will have experienced members there during Division 8 and 9 tryouts to help show you the basics of the game and make sure you are comfortable.

Fall 2009 Tryout Schedule
(All tryouts are held at the Rustin High School, 351 W 18 Street, between 8th and 9th on the North side of the street)
Thursday, August 27, 2009 -- Divisions 1 and 2 -- 7 PM
Sunday, August 30, 2009 -- Divisions 3, 4, and 5 -- 12 PM, 2 PM, 4 PM (Arrive at the time for the highest division you are trying for)
Wednesday, September 9, 2009 -- Power A/B/C -- 7 PM
Thursday, September 10, 2009 -- Power D/E/F -- 7 PM
Saturday, September 12, 2009 -- Divisions 6, 7, and 8 -- 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM (Arrive at the time for the highest division you are trying for)
Sunday, September 13, 2009 -- Division 9 -- 11 AM (Division 9 is our most beginner division where everyone makes a team...instead of tryouts, you will be shown some basics of the games and do some volleyball drills)

Guide to those New to Gotham:  Divisions 1 through 5 require knowledge of the 6-2 offensive formation (and Division 1 requires you know 5-1 as well) and experience playing volleyball at an intermediate or advanced level.  Divisions 6 and 7 have advanced beginners and intermediate players as well.  Divisions 8 and 9 have mix of advanced beginners and beginner players (see below).

Guide to those New to the Game: Divisions 8 and 9 are the divisions that take most new members who have little to no volleyball experience. Sometimes, those new to the game are selected for Division 7 and rarely, but occasionally, for Division 6. We strongly encourage those new to the game not to try out for any division above Division 6, you may consider Division 6 and/or 7 depending on your comfort level, and strongly encourage you to try out for BOTH Divisions 8 and 9. If you have any questions, e-mail info@gothamvolleyball.org.

For more information, visit our website at www.gothamvolleyball.org.  If you have any questions, please e-mail us at info@gothamvolleyball.org or for questions about Power classes, you can e-mail power@gothamvolleyball.org.

Thanks for reading this whole e-mail!  Looking forward to seeing all of you and welcoming those of you who are new!

Sincerely,

Seth Eichenholtz

The mission of the TNYC is to raise money to provide FREE uniforms for all local athletes participating in International sporting events. In 2009, we provided uniforms for the Outgames in Copenhagen. Now, we are focusing on the 2010 Gay Games in Cologne, Germany. To reach this goal, we will be setting up various social events at local bars and restaurants.

Come join our team to help put together these fundraising events and promote them among the LGBT community.  We would love some assistance with marketing, event planning, organizing and running events, communicating with teams and build awareness about Team New York and Out of Bounds NYC!
