Gotham Volleyball

Gotham Volleyball is the largest gay sports organization in New York City. Our members are primarily gay and lesbian but we also welcome individuals who are bisexual, transgender, and straight. The main purpose of Gotham is to promote the development and enjoyment of the sport of volleyball among the gay and lesbian community in particular, as well as the general populace. We are a sports organization that encourages competition in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Several times a year we hold fundraising tournaments in which we donate proceeds to various organizations in our community.

Tryouts: Tryouts and team assignments are held at the beginning of each season for a wide range of skill levels. Higher divisions play using the 6-2 formation on the court while our lower divisions play with the traditional 4-2 formation.

Players who have never played in our league before MUST ATTEND tryouts so their skill level can be evaluated. (Our team captains cannot select a player they haven't seen play before.) If you are new to our league and have questions about what levels to try out for, please contact info@gothamvolleyball.org. Those new to volleyball should read our guide to those new to the game, listed below.

Returning members, especially those who are seeking to switch divisions, are strongly encouraged to show up for tryouts. Given the increase the League has been getting during our tryouts each season, we encourage our returners to be open minded and sign up for as many divisions as they reasonably feel comfortable playing in.

LGBTQ Track and Field

LGBTQ Track and Field
About three weeks ago one of the biggest continental multi-sport events EuroGames (with over 5,000 LGBTQ athletes) finished in Barcelona with tons of enthusiasm at Track & Field... European athletes rarely get to enjoy LGBTQ Track & Field events and with upcoming Outgames2009 and GayGames2010 in Europe there are concrete events to coordinate for and also a chance to finally form a circuit for this sport.

A coordination discussion list http://groups.yahoo.com/group/glita was setup by one of SF Track & Field PRIDE organizers - now living in France Giampiero Mancinelli. The goal of discussion list is to inform, organize, publicize on LGBT and LGBT-friendly T&F competitions, coordinate on fundraising and teaming for group participation, but primarily to make new friends and stay in touch!

List has over 50 members in it's first week. Join in and help us establish a strong and productive international network!
