  THE JUSTIN CAMPAIGN: FOOTBALL V. HOMOPHOBIA

On February 19th 2010, The Justin Campaign are launching an initiative, Football v Homophobia, to raise awareness of homophobia in amateur and professional football; to unite clubs, players and fans internationally by using the game of football to bring communities together in opposing hate and intolerance in the world’s favourite sport.

After listening to our partners and supporters, The Justin Campaign believe that to tackle homophobia in football effectively a collective show of opposition needs to be made by all involved to get a message of zero tolerance across to the perpetrators of homophobic insults and abuse.

We intend that Football v Homophobia on Feb 19th will become the one day out of each year where individuals, community groups & teams and clubs internationally can express their disapproval of homophobia in football by celebrating under the banner of Football v Homophobia.

The launch in the UK this year will also coincide with LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) History Month, a full month of activity celebrating the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. We hope that you can express your support for the day and ensure that this initiative significantly changes how LGBT people are perceived and treated in football. You don’t have to be a football fan or sports group to back the campaign.

Join Marriage Equality New York on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 for a day in Albany to educate our legislators on why marriage equality matters.

We will be providing transportation from all over New York State to those who register with the transportation option. When we all arrive, around 10:30am, we will have a brief overview of on marriage equality and then a working lunch. The lunch is where we will work in small groups to plan further community organizing and meetings for New York State.

Our small group legislature education meetings will give each legislator a chance to hear your personal story on how this issue effects you. We will provide you with the facts and a leave behind for the legislator but the real opportunity is to tell your story on what marriage equality matters.

We currently have transportation from:

* Midtown Manhattan
* Buffalo
* and we will work with other locations for local pick-ups or alternative transportation

PLEASE NOTE- THE EARLIER YOU CONTACT US THE EASIER TO ARRANGE TRANSPORTATION

This event is an all day event starting early and arriving back in the evening, so please plan accordingly. If you are meeting us in Albany, you will need to arrive mid-morning and will be complete to leave by early evening.

If you would like to apply for a cost assistance scholarship or if you have questions, concerns or comments please email us at

OUT OF BOUNDS NYC IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER
FOR THE ORIGINAL GLBT EXPO • MARCH 20-21, 2010

The Original GLBT Expo (www.originalglbtexpo.com) is coming up very soon and we're proud to announce that Out of Bounds & the Team New York Committee have a booth again this year.  We are looking for volunteers to staff our booth and help us promote Out of Bounds and Team New York and the many GLBT sports and recreation organizations to the hundreds and hundreds of people who will wander by.
The Expo will be at the Jacob Javits Center (37th Street & 11th Avenue in Manhattan) on Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st.

As a volunteer, your job will be to greet these people -- encourage them to take some of the postcards and flyers which we will provide on the various GLBT sports and recreation groups.  And most important, you will be asking them to sign-up for our mailing list!  That's easy!  And no prior booth experience is necessary :)   If you represent a sports & recreation organization and you don't have a booth of your own this year, be our guests and promote your group at the Out of Bounds & the Team New York booth!

We are now setting up the volunteer schedule for the Expo and asking anyone interested to take ONE shift.  Only 2 hours of your time.  Nice and easy.  You may invite a friend to join you on your shift, which would help a lot -- the goal is to have at least two people at all times (so one can explore the Expo, go for food, drinks, bathroom, etc.)

And as a booth volunteer, you'll get free entry into the Expo, and you can wander around either before or after your shift!

Here are the shift slots:
Saturday, March 20, 2009
11am-1pm  (2 people)
1pm-3pm (DONE)
3pm-5pm (DONE)

5pm-7pm (2 people)

Sunday, March 21, 2009
12pm-2pm (2 people)
2pm-4pm (2 people)
4pm-6pm (2 people)

Please reply ASAP and claim your shift.  I'll confirm with you if it is available.  Please provide an alternate choice, just in case the first isn't available.

Thanks in advance!
